Twitter is the one among the social networking sites that is the least personal in nature. Having a public profile means one is baring it all for the general consumption. And that is why it requires an altogether different mindset. These are some tips that I religiously follow in this medium.
- You remain just a tweet away from disaster, a pink slip, and a broken heart. Always.
- You do not follow everyone. And everyone will not follow you. Bear with it.
- You follow individuals, and their eccentricities. Bear with them.
- You should ensure a healthy balance between jokers and intellectuals in your timeline. You will need either of the two, Always!
- Your follower count is just like stock prices – they move up and down – don’t take things to heart.
- Your geographic location is important for just a few, some stalkers, and in some cases robbers too. Remember that.
- Disagree with someone? Ignore. It’s just a tweet.
- Like to jump in between conversations already happening? – use greasemonkey to know the context first. More Greasemonkey scripts here.
- Individuals not in your time-zone need to be listed separately. You can easily know what they were up-to when you slept.
- Individuals that follow, then un-follow and then follow you again need your attention. Block Them. Save them the exertion. Like Seriously!
- Be Useful – if you find a bot – Block and Report it to spam. Save others from the menace.
- Want to repeatedly promote a blog post of yours – You Can, because your tweets have a low shelf life. But ensure that you tweet about other stuff and converse in between duplicate tweets.
- Be a Reliable Link Sharer – Use bit.ly for shortening URLs. Bit.ly uses Google’s Safe Browsing API, SURBL, SpamCop, and 3 more services to protect readers from malicious URLs
- Converse; or stay shut and learn from reading conversations.
- I will not ask you to (1) retweet if you like this post or (2) follow me. That is your choice. Let’s seek some Organic and Voluntary Growth.
